Way to go! Wait, not that part.

I’ve made an Instagram account and I’ve seen some posts that trouble me because they’re directly attacking weight loss surgery as some kind of “cheat”. Of course if you haven’t had weight loss surgery then making a claim like this would immediately boost your own sense of self worth by setting you in a self-proclaimed class apart from everyone else that’s had their guts rummaged around in.

I’d like to make myself clear in this drivel post that this web space will never be a place where that kind of mindset is tolerated or encouraged. That kind of mindset requires that you make someone else feel less-than for pursuing a path towards what many of us are also pursuing; a better life.

How someone pursues happiness, especially when it isn’t hurting anyone else, is entirely up to them. I happen to know the requirements and disciplines that go along with that surgery as I’ve seriously considered it for myself in the past. If I had gone through with it and someone had called that entire experience a “cheat”, I would be “upset”.

We would all do well to offer a hand out in mutual cooperation rather than slapping them away because of different pasts that have brought us all to this same place. We all have the capacity to learn, grow, and adapt, but not in a good direction if we’re kicking away good people for bad reasons that would only serve to fuel a feeling of self-proclaimed superiority. A much more hollow feeling than cultivating actual connection and growth with the good people around you, in my personal opinion.

As a closing warning though, you don’t have to be overly tolerant either. Try not to feel squeamish about ejecting people that have proven themselves to be bad from your life.

Ad astra per aspera.
